Looking at Colorado Springs, CO from the top of Pikes Peak
Descending from the top of Pikes Peak on the Cog Railway, May 30, 2010
I was happy to get company from my hometown of Great Bend, Kansas over Memorial Day weekend. My wife's grand-nephew Steve Dyer, his daughter Justine and his granddaughter Leah visited me for two days. While they were here, we rode the Cog Railway to the top of Pikes Peak.
It was quite an adventure. At the mountaintop elevation of more than 10,000 ft, I suffered from insufficient oxygen and collapsed while standing in the Visitor Center at the summit. Due to quick action by the staff and Medics on duty, I revived sufficiently for the return descending trip down the mountain. We enjoyed a Sunday evening dinner at "Noodles" in Colorado Springs and overall, called our sightseeing trip a success!
It took me two days to rest up and get over the soreness from my fall, but I'm grateful to have not fractured anything. And I was happy to have the company of some of my family members.
